2. Why "yellow?" How would a color -change alter the story? (Discuss)
- You will be assigned to a group and given a color.
- Research: What does that color symbolize? Is it important in any way? What "things" are that color?
- Explain how the story would change if the wallpaper were your assigned color.
- Your group has 15 minutes to work on this. We will then share. You may create some sort of visual/powerpoint/prezi if you wish. Coloring with markers on the white board is also fine.
3. Let's explore Gothic elements.
To make it easy, what would you expect to find in a haunted house? At your table, create a list of items one would expect to see in a haunted house. (2 minutes - sharing)

Think about it - is "The Yellow Wallpaper" a Gothic horror story? After visiting the Virtual Salt link, reread the story. Highlight anything you find that is Gothic. Use a different color from the one you used to highlight things that were yellow. . Create a list of 10 items from the story Think about it. Is the story a Gothic tale or a psychological thriller? Also, bring the newly highlighted story to class on Thursday and be prepared to defend your position.
4. What is Postpartum Depression? Is it possible that the narrator is suffering from this disorder? What evidence exists? Explain your position in a paragraph or two. Post on CANVAS by Thursday.

- Let's look at the room where the narrator resides. Describe it. Of what does it remind you? Where would you expect to find rooms like this?
- Is it possible that there really is a woman in the wallpaper? (Discuss) What is the relationship between the narrator and John? What ultimately happens to John? Who is responsible for the conclusion of the story? - John, the narrator, or the woman in the wallpaper?
